Total Vein Systems (TVS), a Houston based medical supply company with a reputation for providing high quality products at competitive prices, has introduced its second Class IV laser system in 2009, the ThermaLite 1470 for under $35,000. The new system provides up to 12 watts of laser energy at a wavelength of 1470 nanometers and is indicated for a variety of general and vascular surgical procedures. The ThermaLite 1470 offers both pulsed and continuous wave emission modes, and it also features a touch screen display.
TVS co-owner David Centanni said studies have indicated that the 1470 laser wavelength has 40 times more water absorption compared to the 980 nanometer wavelength. The higher rate of absorption by interstitial water allows operating at lower energy density, resulting in less thermal side effects.
“Many physicians are requesting the higher wavelength laser systems for their practices,” Centanni said. “The low cost of the ThermaLite 1470 allows them an economical option. In addition, the ThermaLite 1470 has a universal SMA 905 connector that is compatible with many laser fibers from 380 to 1,000 micron cores. This flexibility allows the physician more cost saving options including reusable fibers,“ he said.
The Quanta 1470 also comes complete with a one-year service agreement.
