VEIN CARE ALTERNATIVES JOHN FEDERBUSCH M.D. 1 South 132 Summit Ave Suite 105 Oakbrook Terrace IL 60181-3931 phone (630) 629-2280 fax (630) 629-3901 e-mail: click here or see below web: www.veincarealternatives.com Phlebology (sclerotherapy) Diagnosis and non-surgical injection treatment for Varicose and Spider veins Welcome to Vein Care Alternatives. We appreciate your interest in learning more about different aspects of vein problems (varicose and spider veins) and their respective solutions. We find it amazing that so many people, men and women alike, have vein problems, yet it is so difficult to find out information about physicians who specialize in this field. We are called phlebologists, a specialty recently recognized by the American Medical Association. That is why we decided to disseminate information about our specialized practice on the internet. Dr. Federbusch, the Medical Director of Vein Care Alternatives, has been a full time Phlebologist (vein specialist) since 1988. He runs an independent solo practice in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois (a near western suburb of Chicago) dedicated solely to the diagnosis and treatment of varicose and spider veins. He does this almost exclusively utilizing Sclerotherapy (vein injections), much of which is guided by Duplex Video Doppler Ultrasound Imaging. This new state-of-the-art technology provides us with a wonderful alternative to the old fashioned surgical stripping operation of years past. Using this new technology, almost all cases, even the very large ropey varicose veins, can be treated without surgery, on an out-patient basis and typically without any time off of work. Several other factors distinguish Vein Care Alternatives and Dr. Federbusch from other physicians or practices that treat vein problems. He is an independent practitioner, which means his recommendations for diagnosis and treatment are in no way limited or restricted (i.e. "MANAGED") by an Insurance Company or Third Party Administrator, (although many insurance companies pay for our procedures since our extensive vascular Ultrasound Testing usually determines that treatment is medically necessary). This allows our patients to be reassured that our recommendations are in their best interest and not the Insurance Company or Third Party Administrator's best interest. Another distinguishing factor is that all treatment is administered personally by Dr. Federbusch, not by nurses or technicians. This practice continues to thrive and grow primarily by successfully treated patients spreading the good word to other people suffering from vein problems and Physicians who have recognized Dr. Federbusch's exceptional clinical skills and caring attitude. Patients have come from not only many areas of Illinois, but also Wisconsin, Indiana and as far away as Iowa to obtain relief from their vein problems. Additional information about our practice, Dr. Federbusch and vein disease, diagnosis and treatment follows. The best way to contact us is by telephone any day Monday through Friday, although you may also fax or E-mail us. We look forward to hearing from you soon. JOHN FEDERBUSCH, M.D. MEDICAL DIRECTOR Dr. John Federbusch, a Chicago native, graduated from St. Mary's College, Winona, MN, in 1972, and Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, in 1977. He completed his Internship at Evanston Hospital in 1978 (part of Northwestern University Medical School). In 1988, after ten years in general and preventive medicine, Dr. Federbusch limited his practice to the highly specialized field of phlebology, the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, spider veins and related diseases of the legs. He initially practiced phlebology in a large group practice where, in addition to treating his own patients, he was responsible for training other physicians. In 1990, after 2 years of group practice, he felt he could provide more personalized care in a more cost-effective manner by practicing independently. He left the group, obtained additional specialized training in phlebology and, in 1991, established Vein Care Alternatives to fulfill his goals. Vein Care Alternatives is a full time, private practice. Dr. Federbusch is Medical Director and the sole physician in the practice. All evaluations and treatments are personally performed by him. Since 1988, he has treated thousands of patients. Dr. Federbusch is a member of, and routinely participates in, Continuing Medical Education programs sponsored by, the AMA, Chicago Medical Society, DuPage County Medical Society, Illinois State Medical Society, American College of Phlebology and the Phlebology Society of America. Raised on the south side of Chicago, currently residing in Lincoln Park, Dr. Federbusch enjoys running, skiing, yacht racing, scuba diving and underwater photography and body building. He has held a USCG Captains license for the US and the Virgin Islands, has crewed on nine Mackinac Island Sailboat races and holds a PADI scuba diving certification in marine biology. CONSULTATION AND EVALUATION FOR VEIN DISEASE If you are interested in having your vein disease treated at this time, we recommend that you make an appointment for a consultation and evaluation. You will be sent a detailed Health Questionnaire about the problems you are experiencing with your legs, which you should fill out completely prior to your appointment. At the time of your consultation, which will take approximately 1-2 hours, your Doctor will review your Health Questionnaire as it relates to your vein disease, thoroughly examine your legs and perform a Screening Doppler Ultrasound Scan. The Doctor will then summarize his findings and make his recommendations for additional vascular testing, if indicated, and your treatment alternatives. A written Treatment Plan will be given to you at your consultation. It will include an estimate of all fees. Our financial policies will be discussed at this time. We have a variety of plans available. We accept many insurance plans, in addition to personal checks, Master Card and Visa. We will make every effort to work out a mutually acceptable arrangement. As a convenience for you, we will be happy to assist you in determining the extent of your insurance coverage. We can best do this at the time your consultation appointment is scheduled. Many insurance companies find our fees are in the "usual and customary" range. Our success with insurance companies is due to the documentation of abnormalities through Ultrasound, which substantiates medical necessity. If however, no insurance coverage is available, a substantial discount is usually given. Dr. Federbusch has had much specialized training by internationally recognized experts in the field of phlebology and has successfully treated many thousands of diseased veins. So no matter how severe or minor your vein disease may be, your consultation is an opportunity to find out more about your disease and what can be done about it. Most patients experience noticeable improvement both in how their legs look and how they feel. References for Dr. Federbusch and "before and after" patient photographs are available for review at the time of your consultation or on this website, if available. Evaluations, testing and treatments are by appointment only. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions. SPECIAL OFFER: If you call now for an appointment, your Screening Doppler Ultrasound Scan exam will be included with your examination at no additional charge. There is no obligation to start treatment. John Federbusch,M.D. Medical Director |
