46th VEITHSYMPOSIUM SET FOR NOV. 19-23

 

VEITHsymposium is planning the 46th Annual Symposium for Nov. 19-23 at the New York Hilton Midtown. The five-day event features rapid-fire presentations from world renowned vascular specialists with emphasis on the latest advances, changing concepts in diagnosis and management, pressing controversies and new techniques

Abstracts are being accepted at veithsymposium.org/index.php?pg=p  The five members of the  associate faculty podium presentations committee working with abstracts include Enrico Ascher, MD; Maria Frankovicova, MD, PhD; Sherif Sultan, MD, PhD; Wayne W. Zhang, MD; and Paulo Eduardo Ocke Reis, MD, PhD.

VIETHSymposium provides vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, interventional cardiologists and other vascular specialists with a unique and exciting format to learn the most current information about what is new and important in the treatment of vascular disease.

Frank J. Veith, MD, is symposium chairman. He is assisted by co-chairmen Enrico Ascher, MD; Sean P. Lyden, MD; and Kenneth Ouriel, MD, MBA.

            The 34-member scientific committee is still working on the 2019 program. Component meeting leaders include Jose I. Almeida, MD, RPVI, RVT; George L. Berdejo, BA, RVT; Allan L. Brook, MD; Jacob Cynamon, MD; Krassi Ivancev, MD, PhD; Michael R. Jaff, DO; Lowell S. Kabnick, MD, RPhS; Natalie A. Marks, MD, RPVI, RVT; Larry A. Scher, MD; Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH; Robert L. Vogelzang, MD; Thomas W. Wakefield, MD; Haimanot (Monnie) Wasse, MD, MPH; and Wayne F. Yakes, MD.

VEITHsymposium also welcomes medical students who may be interested in pursuing a career in vascular surgery. Sessions offer insight into open surgery and endovascular approaches in treating patients with vascular disease. The meeting offers medical students an opportunity to meet leaders in the vascular surgery field.

Highlights for students include:

  • Carotid artery disease: Diagnosis, symptoms, tests and treatment.
  • Acute and chronic thoracic aortic disease: Diagnosis, aortic aneurysms, dissections and repair.
  • Lower extremity disease: Including diagnosis, interventional treatments (stents), open surgery, managing patients.
  • Endovenous management of varicose veins.
  • Hands on venous workshops.
  • Tips and tricks for the practicing vascular specialist. VTN

Larry Storer has been editor of Vein Therapy News for 10 years. He has edited computer, shelter and medical publications at Publications & Communications LP for 30 years. He was also a corporate vice president and editorial director before retiring. Larry graduated from Baylor University with a BA in journalism and an MA in communications; and from Lamar University with a MED in school administration. He taught beginning and advanced reporting, beginning and advanced editing and editorial writing at Baylor University. Larry was a reporter, and city and news editor of the Beaumont Journal, and opinion editor at the Beaumont Enterprise and Beaumont Enterprise-Journal. He was also the founding managing editor of the Yuba City (California) Daily Independent-Herald.
